Open Book: A Human Library and Community Experience

An afternoon designed to bring people together through stories, connection, creativity, and community. Individual experiences looked a little different depending on the ticket chosen.

At Open Book, guests can choose how they want to participate. Whether you're joining a small-group storytelling session, meeting someone new at the community table, getting a portrait, swapping a book, or simply enjoying the space, there's room to participate at your own pace.

Beyond the storytelling, all General Admission/Community Connection attendees enjoyed:

  • Community Table - A welcoming, low-pressure space to meet other attendees, make connections, and build community.

  • Photography - Portraits taken by our content creator/photographer on their own or with friends, family, or someone they met at the event.

  • Gifting - A watercolour artist was on-site creating custom portraits for guests to take home.

  • Book Swap - Attendees brought a pre-loved book and exchanged it for something new-to-them. All books were in good, readable condition.

  • Café - Both for purchase and free snacks and drinks were available throughout the event.

  • Cozy Corner - A quiet space to decompress, relax, or take a breather from the activity as needed.

  • Kids Area* - A supervised kids table was available as an additional support for families attending the event.
*Parents and guardians remained responsible for their child/children at all times. The kids area was intended as an additional support and activity space, and was not a replacement for parental or guardian supervision.

  • Win prizes - Storytelling participants and attendees who completed select activities throughout the event had the chance to enter prize draws, with prizes including a pair of tickets to an AFC Toronto soccer game or a Poppy & Peonies Multi-tasker bag!
